A pregnancy in photos, sort of
This is an audio recording of an already published essay (pages 32-34 in the link). I’m hoping this is the start of me reading out loud regularly. I did a voice-over for a post once here— though I can’t find it to link to it— at my sister Loey’s request. She really just wanted to listen to stuff instead of read stuff. So many people are just listening to things now, it makes sense for me to jump on that bandwagon.
I still really wish people would read the written word— it matters! I want to publish a book!
Anyway, if you like the recording or the idea of me including more audio posts, let me know. You can leave a comment, or just, you know, click the heart.
This is the first essay I ever had published in a lit mag, in this case, The Monongahela Review. My friend Luke started it, and published a few digital issues before letting it go. I’m pretty sure I just got in because I knew him and went to church with him. But it still counts right? I probably wrote this in 2006 or 2007 as part of the MFA in Creative Writing program I was in at Chatham University at the time. It is old. I’m old. My kids are old. Here, I’m reading the original version, as it was published in 2010.
A caveat: I’m just going to do one recording, and let all the mistakes happen. I’m not going to beautify it. It’s just me, all me, voice cracking, taking deep breaths and swallowing when I’m about to cry.

I liked hearing the story in your voice and imagining the photographs.
I am also a fan of the written word, but there is something special about listening to a familiar voice read aloud!
